Special Education Teacher
To provide quality instructional services to children with disabilities as assigned by the Director and Principal.
The Anderson County School System is looking for a Special Education Teacher for the 2022-2023 school year.
Job Qualifications
- All teachers shall be licensed in accordance with state law and the regulations of the Tennessee State Department of Education. Such license shall be on file in the office of Human Resource/ Business office prior to beginning employment.
- It is the responsibility of the employee to secure a certificate and to maintain its validity. When a teacher’s employment agreement must be terminated because the teachers’ certificate has lapsed or otherwise become invalid, the director shall immediately suspend the teacher without pay until the matter is resolved.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Report to Principal/ Supervisor
- Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in the areas of assessment, placement, and planning for special education services.
- Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
- Design appropriate goals, objectives and timelines for appropriate special education services for eligible students.
- Plan and implement a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities within the district curriculum as well as the Individual Educational Program for the student.
- Monitor and document student progress and communication progress with appropriate students, staff, parents, and other members of the school based team(s).
- Collaborate with regular classroom teachers, other specialty teachers, and related service providers in the development of a variety of strategies to meet the educational needs of special education students.
- Follow time schedules, attend and participate in all assigned meetings, and maintain a positive professional manner with students, parents, and staff.
- Maintain confidentiality standards as defined by local, state, and federal rules and regulations.
- Administers and develops subject specific assessments for the purpose of assessing student competency levels and/ or developing individual learning plans.
- Assesses student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administrations.
- Consult parents concerning the educational needs of students and interpretation of assessment data.
- Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
- Reports to the principal of the school when one know or suspects that a child’s health or welfare has been or appears to have been harmed as a result of abuse or neglect.
- Maintains cordial relationships with staff, home, parents and community.
