Job Overview: 

 

This position is specific to students with IEPs who have significant behavior needs.  The teacher works to provide extra support for special education students who need extra behavior support.  They should work to build healthy relationships between educators and students, while taking strides to reduce, prevent, and improve harmful behavior. The teacher will focus on resolving conflict, while holding individual students and groups accountable.  Finally, the teacher will work to develop, support, and challenge students to find success in the classroom.

- To establish rapport and work constructively with staff, students, parents, and community members.     

- To creatively solve problems and work through the conflict resolution process. 

- To communicate effectively, in oral and written form.

- To maintain knowledge of best practices and laws governing behavioral supports for students with disabilities.

-To create and maintain Individualized Education Plans and Behavior Intervention Plans

 

Responsibility:

Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; Utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions. Working Conditions & Physical Demands:

- Ability to work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations.

- Ability to stand and circulate for extended periods of time.

- Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand normal conversation.

- Moderate to high stress levels.

- Daily contact with students, teachers, and school staff.

- Regular contact with parents, community members and outside agency personnel.

 

Experience Preferred but not required:

 

Experience writing behavior plans for students with behavior difficulties including students with autism and other disabilities.
